MADRID — Iberia has launched daily nonstop flights between Madrid-Barajas and Newark Liberty, making Newark its 11th U.S. destination and third daily service to the New York area.

The route uses the Airbus A321XLR, a long-range single-aisle aircraft with 14 business class and 168 economy seats. Iberia, the launch airline for this model, reports up to 40% lower fuel consumption compared to traditional wide-body jets on transatlantic routes. The aircraft includes the Airspace cabin with LED lighting and two travel classes.

Flights operate daily on the following schedule: IB327 departs Madrid at 7:35 p.m. and arrives in Newark at 10:25 p.m.; IB328 departs Newark at 11:55 p.m. and arrives in Madrid at 1:20 p.m. the following day.

“Our new flight to Newark is a tangible example of how Iberia is bringing our Flight Plan 2030 to life — a roadmap designed to consolidate our position as the leader in connectivity between Europe and the Americas,” said María Jesús López Solás, Iberia’s chief commercial, network development, and alliances officer. “Newark’s proximity to Manhattan makes it an excellent choice for the corporate market.”

The Newark addition brings Iberia’s total seat capacity between Madrid and the New York area to more than 350,000 for the 2026 summer season, a 42% increase over the prior year. The airline already operates two daily flights between Madrid and John F. Kennedy International Airport.

The new service is part of Iberia’s Flight Plan 2030, a long-term expansion strategy backed by a €6 billion investment in fleet renewal, digitalization, and customer experience enhancements. The plan calls for growing the airline’s long-haul fleet from 48 to 70 aircraft. Other new routes launching under the plan this year include Toronto on June 13 and Monterrey, Mexico, on June 2.

Newark will compete with United Airlines, which also operates nonstop service between Newark and Madrid from its hub at Newark Liberty International Airport.
